Summary

In the classic Women Who Run With The Wolves, Clarissa Pinkola Estes tells us about the 'wild woman', the wise and ageless presence in the female psyche that gives women their creativity, energy and power。 For centuries, the 'wild woman' has been repressed by a male-orientated value system which trivialises women's emotions。 Using a combination of time-honoured stories and contemporary casework, Estes reveals that the 'wild woman' in us is innately healthy, passionate and wise。

Thoughtfully written and compelling in its arguments, Women Who Run With The Wolves gives readers a new sense of direction, a self confidence and purpose in their lives。

This book really helped me tap into the divine feminine。 Loved it!

I really enjoyed the stories, but not really the analysis the author makes of them, I found them to be too repetitive。 Also, some of the words/phrases in Spanish are misspelled or badly translated, which made me doubt about the translation she gives of Japanese or Hungarian words。 I really think she could have double-checked them。 After finishing this book, I got the impression that the author is too full of herself, as in, she wants to prove she's very knowledgeable about many cultures and trad I really enjoyed the stories, but not really the analysis the author makes of them, I found them to be too repetitive。 Also, some of the words/phrases in Spanish are misspelled or badly translated, which made me doubt about the translation she gives of Japanese or Hungarian words。 I really think she could have double-checked them。 After finishing this book, I got the impression that the author is too full of herself, as in, she wants to prove she's very knowledgeable about many cultures and traditions but at the same time she's not capable of checking the spelling of the words she borrowed from them? I might just be a disappointed Spanish translator, but still。 。。。more

This text has a lot to offer。 The allegories and walkthrough analysis are ever relevant & applicable, offering insight & comfort with regard to human nature & life experiences。 It is wordy & redundant, i do wish it were more concise but perhaps there is something in it being a bit challenging to digest。 Fortunately, you can jump around although earlier stories are referenced sometimes。 I found the first couple chapters the most annoying to get through but I would say it is wholly worth the read。 This text has a lot to offer。 The allegories and walkthrough analysis are ever relevant & applicable, offering insight & comfort with regard to human nature & life experiences。 It is wordy & redundant, i do wish it were more concise but perhaps there is something in it being a bit challenging to digest。 Fortunately, you can jump around although earlier stories are referenced sometimes。 I found the first couple chapters the most annoying to get through but I would say it is wholly worth the read。 This text came into my life about 10 years ago, i revisit it often & have gifted it and shared excerpts several times over。 A testament to and preservation of traditional oral stories and values that face erasure。 I consider Women Who Run with Wolves a staple in my personal library。 。。。more

the audiobook is tragically bad - awful reading cadence and mouth noises

I wanted to like this whole book but I only enjoyed the folklore analysis and interpretation parts。 The collection of myths was definitely well chosen。The psychoanalysis part, in my opinion, could have been halved; many parts of the book just seemed repeated over and over again with not much substance added。

I'm not going to rate this book because I'm not sure how to。 It has an academic feel to it。 I enjoyed the tales and it's symbolism。 Some chapters resonated more with me than others。 It's a thought provoking read and I read it really slowly。 An accompanying podcast that reviewed each chapter that I listened to was very useful in getting through this book。 Some very meaningful insights for all women with lots of gold nuggets of eye opening ideas。 I'm not going to rate this book because I'm not sure how to。 It has an academic feel to it。 I enjoyed the tales and it's symbolism。 Some chapters resonated more with me than others。 It's a thought provoking read and I read it really slowly。 An accompanying podcast that reviewed each chapter that I listened to was very useful in getting through this book。 Some very meaningful insights for all women with lots of gold nuggets of eye opening ideas。 。。。more

A bit too ~new age than I usually care for, but I really enjoyed it。 Lots of interesting things - I really like the concept (of course I do) of how some of us are born into families that are deserts and how we can't flourish in that environment。 A bit too ~new age than I usually care for, but I really enjoyed it。 Lots of interesting things - I really like the concept (of course I do) of how some of us are born into families that are deserts and how we can't flourish in that environment。 。。。more

I admit I haven't finished it yet, but that's only because this book is so dense with information。 It takes me weeks sometimes to 'unpack' it mentally。 That's not to say that it's not comprehensible, but quite the contrary - its depth is overwhelming and every story has layers。 It's a type of book I would not be able to read or understand in my 20's, but now in my mid 30's, it's a gift I buy for my female friends。 It will not make sense if you expect feminist bullshit, but it will make sense if I admit I haven't finished it yet, but that's only because this book is so dense with information。 It takes me weeks sometimes to 'unpack' it mentally。 That's not to say that it's not comprehensible, but quite the contrary - its depth is overwhelming and every story has layers。 It's a type of book I would not be able to read or understand in my 20's, but now in my mid 30's, it's a gift I buy for my female friends。 It will not make sense if you expect feminist bullshit, but it will make sense if you are a bit familiar with Carl Jung's work, have an interest in psychology and have attempted to somehow answer the question of 'Who am I?' and 'What does it actually mean to be a woman?'。 Every chapter of this book is filled with a lot of information, spanning from all ends of the world; stories, their symbolism and meaning respective to the female and the feminine。 Again, the density of the information sometimes makes me spend days pondering。 I engage into deep discussions with friends about the point of view presented in the stories and it's always so eye-opening and horizon expanding for everyone involved。 Definitely highly recommended, but once again, if you are not familiar with Jung and symbolism (and by proxy, some spiritual concepts and symbols), it will mean little to nothing。 。。。more

Oh my goodness。 The stories themselves were good! The analysis was repetitive, self important and not really informative。 An analysis of the evolution of the stories would have been more captivating but consistently talking about my psyche in regards to life and death just wasn't doing anything for me。 Cannot believe this is as beloved as it is。 I feel like I'm missing something。 Oh my goodness。 The stories themselves were good!
